Evaluations provide you with invaluable information about you/your child's cognitive, social, academic, and emotional abilities. This allows you and the healthcare team to make the most informed decision about how to best help you/your child. Furthermore, many insurance agencies are requiring families to submit a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation to approve certain therapeutic services. Although a specific diagnosis cannot be guaranteed, the results will help assist in gaining access to the care you/your child needs.
Great question, this is all explained in great detail on the "Evaluations" tab!
As a licensed psychologist I can provide any diagnosis listed within the DSM-5-TR. That said, I specialize in the diagnosis of Autism, ADHD, Developmental Delay, Intellectual Disorder, and Specific Learning Disorders. I also have experience in working with children who've met criteria for anxiety and depression. That said, I do not specialize in more complex diagnoses such as PTSD, Bipolar Disorder, Personality Disorders, nor Schizophrenia. Therefore, further testing by a different psychologist will be recommended should there be suspicion that any of these diagnoses better explain the presentation of behaviors.

Unfortunately, we cannot say for sure that your plan will cover any aspect of testing, including ADHD/ASD assessments. Insurance agencies and plans are always evolving and often vary state by state and even plan by plan within state. Therefore, we cannot know for sure if you'll be covered until we gather your insurance information and verify.
The only way we can know for sure is if we verify your coverage plan. This can be done by calling the front office and giving them your information. It is important to note that some insurance companies will cover ASD/ADHD assessments that are conducted in-person but not those done via Telehealth.
Unfortunately, no. Insurance companies do not cover assessment of academic abilities that are necessary for determining a diagnosis of specific learning disorder. Therefore, these services will be billed directly to you as an out-of-pocket rate of $150 per hour.
Your overall costs will be based on your insurance plan and testing needs. For example, if you are interested in simply having an evaluation for ASD or ADHD then the amount you pay is determined by your insurance plan and patient responsibility. If you are seeking additional testing for possible learning disorder, then these service hours will be billed as out-of-pocket directly to you at a rate of $150 per hour. The number of hours needed will be discussed with you prior to scheduling of testing sessions to ensure it is within your means.
That depends...
If your insurance plan includes coverage for ASD/ADHD testing then, Yes, you'll use your insurance to cover some of the costs. For example, the insurance will be used to cover the portion of testing that determines if you meet criteria for ADHD or Autism. Then, the out-of-pocket fees will be an additional cost to you to cover the academic testing portion of the evaluation process.
However, if your insurance does not cover any testing or services via Telehealth then you are responsible for the entire fee if you choose to move forward.
Number of hours needed is based on the amount of testing needed plus time required for scoring, report writing, and interpretation of results. For example, this may look something like: 3 hours billed for face-to-face time testing you/your child, 2 hours billed for collecting collateral data from teachers, and then 5 hours billed for scoring and report writing (total number of hours may vary based on the needs of your child). This equals an out-of-pocket amount of $1,500 in addition to the insurance co-pay/patient responsibility if applicable.
A similar logic will be applied for individuals who's insurance does not cover any aspect of the evaluation process and will be discussed prior to further scheduling.

In the state of WA, individuals ages 13 and above have the ability to initiate psychological services on their own without the need for parental consent. Also, parents may initiate services but the teen must still provide assent to continue treatment. Furthermore, teens have full rights of confidentiality. Therefore, we are not legally allowed to share any information or evaluation results (including the final report) with the parents of teens unless we are provided with written consent through an ROI form.
Unfortunately, no. It is required that your teen (ages 13+) have their own accessible email account. This is where they will have access to the rating scale assessments, intake history form, and final report. Per state and HIPPA confidentiality laws, we cannot release any information or assessment results to parents of teens without written consent from the teen.
We completely understand the importance of online safety and doing what's right for you and your family. That said, we cannot bypass this process and need your teen to have their own accessible email account in order to move forward with services. See questions above for more information.
You absolutely know your child best. That said, this evaluation is to understand your child from their perspective and experiences. Therefore, it is imperative that they fill out the initial history form as best as possible. Of course, they can request your help to complete the form as needed.
Also, know that there will be opportunities for you (the parent) to provide additional inputs about their experiences from your perspective throughout the evaluation as it is important that we gather as much information as possible from multiple sources. Yet - this is also at the discretion of the teen.
